Box
Styles
There are many styles are available. Some box styles are
applicable to only certain products and have highly
specialized features; others are more general. No
attempt can be made to show every style of box-only
those in most common use. |

Measuring
Boxes
When ordering boxes, the inside dimensions should
always be stated in order of length, width and depth.
Even when the box is to have interior packing, the
dimensions given should be the inside dimensions of
the box irrespective of the interior packing. The
length is the larger of the two dimensions of the open
face; the width is the lesser. The depth is the
distance between the innermost surfaces of the box
measured perpendicular to the length and width. A
tight fit is important for safe transportation and the
box manufacturer is better able to design a box in the
proper size if he is furnished with a sample of the
article to be packed. If it is no practicable to
submit a sample, a complete description of the
article, including drawings available, the quantity to
be packed , and the weight to be shipped in the box
should be supplied to insure that the box which is
designed will comply with the carriers specifications.
Box dimensions are particularly critical when the
product is to be packed with automatic equipment.

Regular
Slotted Container-RSC
All flaps same length. Outer flaps meet. Regular Slotted
Boxes are in more general use than any other style
because they are the most economical to manufacture and
use. |

All
Flaps Meet-AFM
Inner and outer flaps meet at the center. Similar to a
regular slotted box except that it is stronger at the
top and the bottom due to the double thickness
corrugated board in these areas. |

Partial
Overlap Slotted Container-POL
All flaps same length. Outer flaps overlap specified
amount but no less than 1inch. The inner flaps do not
meet. The box is easily closed., usually with staples
driven through the overlap area. |

Full
Overlap Slotted Container- FOL
All Flaps same length. Outer flaps overlap not less than
inside width of box minus a maximum of 1 inch. When this
style box is stacked on its side panel, the extra
thickness of corrugated board on the top and bottom
panels provide stacking strength. The outer flaps, which
almost completely overlap, make this box unusually
resistant to rough handling. |

Half
Slotted Carton (HSC) ad Full Telescope Half Slotted Box
(FTHS)
Singer
HSC is a slotted box with one set of flaps only. Used as
"slip cover" for batteries, refrigerator,
washing machines, ect. An thickness of fiberboard at
sides and ends afford maximum protection of contents and
superior stacking strength. |

Three Scored sheets. Tucks of specified length. The
various folders illustrated are all used principally for
shipment of books, catalogues, wearing apparel and

Partitions
or Dividers
Partitions or dividers provided a separate cell for each
article in a box and are used principally with fragile
items. For extremely fragile items, the partitions can
be constructed so as to provide an air space between the
contents and the walls of the box. |

Inner
Packing Forms
Corrugated fiberboard inner packing forms take many
shapes, which are limited only by the need for
protection, the nature of the contents, and the
ingenuity of the designer. They anchor the article with
the box, and the cushion and protect fragile articles
from damage resulting from external and internal forces. |

Double
Cover Box (DC)
For articles which cannot be readily packed in
standard containers because of height or weight or
because the quantity of articles to be shipped varies.
If the units being packed do not fill the box, the body
may be cut down to the level of the contents. This style
of box is often used fo the shipment of granular and
other free-flowing products. |
